Kareena was born to Sindhi-speaking Babita and Punjabi-speaking Randhir Kapoor on 21st September 1980 in Bombay,India. She has an older sister, Karisma.

She born into a family which have several generations of actors, including paternal great-grandfather, Prithviraj Kapoor, her grandfather, Raj Kapoor, her paternal uncles, Shammi, Shashi, Rishi and Rajiv ;and aunt, Neetu Singh, & Jennifer Kendall, the wives of Rishi and Shashi respectively. On the side of her mother, her grandfather, Hari Shivdasani, and aunt are, Sadhana support of their rights.

As a child she studied at Jamnabai Narsee School Juhu, Mumbai, then went to prestigious Welham Boarding School Dehra Dun. Then she located at Harvard for about 3 months to get a course in information technology and microcomputers. After her return to India, she joined the Government Law College, Churchgate, Mumbai, but one year later she had left it to enroll in the Kishore Namit Kapoor acting school.

Her father Randhir is very protective of his daughters and wanted to keep away from acting to get married, and sattle down, according to Kapoor family tradition. This led to irreconcilable differences between her parents, which eventually led to divorce, with both sisters leaving their father to live with her mother.

Her debut film was in 2000 with "Refugee" with the debut of Amitabh Bachchan's son Abhishek. She went on to appear in 31 other Hindi movies, and so far won four awards for her performance in "Refuges", "Chameli", "Dev" and "Omkara".

At the age of 14 Katrina started modeling for a jewelry campaign in London and was directed by Kaizad Gustad, who gave her a role in his film Boom (2003).
She motivated to Mumbai and was offered a number of models assignments. Kaif ongoing off as a model with photographer Atul Kasbekar, and she got offers from the LG, Cola, Fevicol, Lakme and Veet. It was the Lakme marketable that got her observed. She retained Matrix as her manager to accept work on her behalf and at the value she deserves.
